Bone marrow transplatation
Transplantation of bone marrow

Bone marrow transplantation can cure patients with acute and chronic forms of leukemia and patients with severe bone marrow. The register of bone marrow is needed to those patients who do not have a donor in the family.

Those patients in need of unrelated transplants die if you do not find a suitable donor. The coincidence of the two organisms, the donor and the recipient, in the case of bone marrow transplantation must be one hundred percent. Because the most common and the most promising donors immediate family members, but the likelihood that a patient responds bone marrow blood brother or sister is only 25%.
All bone marrow registries in the European or World Bank bone marrow. This means that if you are enrolled in the registry, you can save a life, not only a man in your city or country, but anywhere in the world. It is very difficult to find a donor and the probability that an organism is a 100% match each other is 1 per 100,000.
Croatian patients their donors usually look for in a German registry of bone marrow.

Bone marrow donation is to give:

First or bone it is taken from the pelvic bone under general anesthesia.

2 or peripheral blood stem STANICE- are cells that are found in your bloodstream and have great power to regenerate itself. From your body taken leukopheresis procedure. It is the process of separating stem cells from the peripheral circulation provider. Coffee leukapheresis is similar to the dialyzer. Blood donors on the one hand goes into the machine, centrifuged and separated stem cells, while the rest of the blood through the other arm back into circulation service. The procedure is painless and does not require anesthesia.

Transplatation of bone marrow or stem cell allows your child to receive considerably higher doses of chemotherapy than usual. During several days to give a very high dose of chemotherapy, sometimes in combination with radiation of the whole body. This, for certain types of cancer, increase the chances of a child for healing. However, this type of treatment is followed by a larger number of side effects.

Bone marrow and stem cells

Bone marrow is the spongy substance found in the middle of all the bones, especially in the long bones of the limbs and pelvic bones.

Bone marrow like plant produces so. stem cells which are then developed three types of blood cells:

- Red blood cells, or erythrocytes, delivering oxygen to all the cells in the body
- White blood cells or leukocytes, play the most important role in the defense against infections
- Platelets or platelets are involved in blood clotting and prevent bleeding.

Stem cells are immature blood cells that develop in the bone marrow. At this stage they are formed from the three kinds of blood cells. When fully mature, these cells are released and go into the bloodstream.

Very high doses of cytostatics destroy bone marrow. After such intensive chemotherapy, using the appropriate procedure, your child will receive a stem cell or bone marrow. Stem cells invade the site of his bone marrow, where again begin to produce blood cells.

Types of transplantation (transplantation)

There are two basic types of transplants:

- Autologous transplants - transplants of their own stem cells and their bone marrow
- Allogeneic transplant - stem cell or bone marrow harvested from a donor. Allogeneic transplantation is a complex procedure that is performed in specialized hospitals. Recovery can take several months.
